What do I wear?
To start, comfortable workout clothes—such as a T-shirt and sweatpants—are perfectly fine. Once you decide to continue, you’ll need to purchase a karate gi (uniform).

What will be taught in your program?
You will be learning traditional karate which includes:
- Basic techniques (Kihon)
- Forms (Kata)
- Sparring (Kumite)
Our instructors guide children in building important life skills that support success both at home and in school. Through lessons in respect, discipline, and communication, students also discover the foundations of karate and self-defense in a fun and enjoyable way. As they advance through the belt levels, their abilities grow alongside their confidence. With specialized training in working with children, our instructors strive to create a rewarding and memorable learning experience every class.
Is karate safe for kids?
Although bumps and bruises can happen in any activity, our experienced instructors prioritize safety and work hard to minimize the risk of injury. As students advance, they’ll be required to purchase protective sparring gear to ensure the safety of both themselves and their training partners.
Can I try a class before joining?

What is the minimum age requirement?
Our karate classes are open to children and teens, ages 4 to 17.
Do you teach adults?
We don’t currently offer adult classes, but may open one if there is enough community interest in the future.
Why do we have to pay for Karate BC fees?
A Karate BC membership is mandatory for all students and instructors for the following reasons:
Covers insurance (liability + sport accident insurance)
Allows participation in Karate BC sanctioned tournaments, seminars, and gradings
Provides access to coaching, referee, and instructor development
Supports Karate BC’s role as the recognized governing body under Karate Canada & Sport BC
Karate BC Annual Membership Fee Schedule:
Junior Colour Belts (15 years & under): $55.00 +gst
Adult Colour Belts (16 years & over): $75.00 +gst
Black Belts (all ages): $90.00 +gst
